This guitar is a complete one-off, made for Tom Nolan who was Fender’s Artist Relations man in the 1980’s and was instrumental in establishing Fender’s Custom Shop presence this side of the pond with a London showroom. One of the very early instruments from the fledgling Fender Custom Shop, this is a super-cool Fender Esquire, with a resonant ash body and beautiful Masterbuilt neck by Scott Buell, one of the original Custom Shop builders, featuring a Clapton-style soft V profile. The guitar is fitted with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails pickup, brilliantly suited to the Esquire. From this one pickup you get a range of great tones – full-on blues power from the unadulterated Hot Rails in position one (“bridge”), which you can tame slightly by rolling off the tone control which becomes active in position two (“middle”). Position three (“neck”) is wired with “The Eldridge Mod” (some additional capacitors) giving a wonderful scooped out honk! This guitar is a seriously special piece of kit, with unique Fender connections. Comes with a tweed hardcase and a letter of provenance.
