Once in a while you come across a guitar that is dripping with mojo! This is one of those guitars. Dating from 1975, this beautiful walnut finish Gibson SG spent its early life in Southern Africa where it clearly saw active service, and its solid mahogany body proudly displays the marks and dents acquired in a lifetime of music making. The serial number on the headstock is hardly legible but the stamp identifies it as a post-1970 guitar, and pot serial number 1377542 dates the guitar to 1975. The original humbuckers are in place and sound amazing – this is a screamer of an SG. Dual volume and tone controls with 3 way toggle selector are all original and work perfectly. The hardware is also believed to be original – tunomatic bridge and stopbar tailpiece. The tuners are 70’s Gibsons, although at some point the original were replaced with non-Gibson tuners and the screw holes from this set is visible. The slim mahogany neck has its fair share of dings and dents, and the fretboard has some scalloping. Frets are show some wear but the guitar plays beautifully. If you’re looking for a “closet classic” SG to hang on the wall this guitar isn’t for you, but if you’re in the market for an affordable 100% genuine relic that yearns to be played, it could be the one. Comes with non-original hardcase.
